The Maiti Movement: a tree for every daughter

The Maiti Movement: a tree for every daughter

When a daughter leaves her parents' home after marriage, the family plants a tree in her honour. The tree is cared for by the maternal family — a living memory.

Started in the 1990s by Kalyan Singh Rawat in Gwaldam, the Maiti Movement has now planted lakhs of trees across the Himalayas. We carry the spirit forward in our name and our work: the orchard is a tribute to land, lineage, and longevity.
